Torleiv Opleiv Opland, Deputy Chief of Mission (US Norwegian Embassy)
Torleiv Opland serves as the Deputy Chief of Mission (Deputy Ambassador) in the Norwegian Embassy in Washington DC. Torleiv is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in security policy, diplomacy, and international affairs. As the former Director for Security Policy and North America at the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has gained a keen insight into our bilateral relations. He also served as Head of Interim Staff for NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and was stationed both in Brussels, as well as the Norwegian Embassy in Ankara, Turkey. He holds a Candidatus juris degree from the University of Oslo and completed Officer Candidate School in the Norwegian Army and he served as Major in the Ministry of Defense Norway’s Military Headquarters. He is married with two children.
